Vengeance, an X-Files novel by Juliettt

After "Anasazi" aired in the spring of 1995, I, along with millions of other fans, spent much of the summer (between work and school) trying to figure out just how Fox Mulder was going to get out of that boxcar. I came up with a theory that I considered particularly X-filey and began work on what I thought was going to be a short story speculating on just what would happen in the season opener.

But the Muse--and some of my readers--had other plans, and the story began to take on a life of its own, to pick up more and more characters--and length--as the summer progressed.

Alas, the story was not completed by my target date, September 22nd, the premiere of the third season of The X-Files with the episode "The Blessing Way." I had planned to begin posting that day, as the story opens on September 22nd, but computer problems (lots and lots of computer problems) prevented this.

And so, having missed the premiere, I decided to continue working on the story, now with the aid of a notebook computer and PCMCIA modem which arrived, ironically enough, on September 22nd. I took the bare bones--the story "Vengeance"--and, with the help of a very patient and supportive group of readers (all hail The Troupe!!), turned it into Vengeance, a full-blown (if you'll pardon the expression), novel-length X-file/relationship/angst story that took me through the third season and into summer hiatus again. Real life, don'tcha know?

And so, here it is. I've posted it in chapters for those folks who need just one part. A link to a complete copy is also provided, courtesy of Adam Lee's fabulous Australian archive.

I really enjoyed working on this one, and getting to know Dana Scully and Fox Mulder a bit better in the process. If you derive one-tenth the pleasure in the reading that I gained in the writing, I have done my job.
