Our Cancer Year
OUR CANCER YEAR: INTRODUCTION
Began writing: Mar. 1997
Finished: Jan. - Feb. 2002
When Istarted writing this series so many years ago, I had barely gotten my feet wet writing X-Files fan fiction. I was green and since then, I've improved immensely as a writer. I look at my early works and want to cry.
So as I brought the story to its final chapter, I could not write an ending. I was inundated with college and huge changes in my life. I tried to finish. I just needed to get that last part done and I could move on to other things I wanted to write. Nothing came to me. Friends and my editor told me to reread what I had written to get some ideas.
I rewrote, I revised, and I finished!
The idea behind this was that Mulder couldn't sit back and watch Scully die. I was definitely halted with the airing of 'Redux II' (to tell you how long I've been writing this) and Scully being cured . . . BUT when it came out that chip in Scully's neck was what saved her, I realized I could still continue.
I understand why they did it, ' The Red and the Black' wouldn't have worked if she didn't have the chip. This soon got overshadowed by 'Emily' and the sudden flooding of 'Scully wants a baby' stories. My story just became one of many.
Despite X-Files having gone in a totally different direction, I hope you enjoy this wonderful story of one possible way the Scully cancer arc could have gone.
I wish to thank several people:
- Rosa, my original beta-reader who deserves thanks for advising me and help in a growth experience.
- Lisa, the one whose been bugging me to finish from chapter one and my current beta reader.
- Leyla Harrison, a dear friend who recently lost her battle with cancer.
- A.I. Irving, the woman who has written more than I ever could and encouraged me through it all
- Cathleen Faye, for designing my book jacket
- ShannonO, the woman whom I'd had so many fond memories with. She kept me reading and never minds that we only talk about X-Files when we get together.
- My Dad, who over two year ago was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and today is cancer-free.

Now a few important words:
This is a story about Mulder and Scully being married. Married people have sex. Therefore, this story will have Mulder and Scully having sex.
It's rated NC-17; some chapters will not contain any sex, but you should read them anyway.
The story line starts with'Tempus Fugit', when Mulder celebrated Scully's Birthday and that's it from there. The end of the 4th season, The 5th season (Specifically 'Redux II' and 'Emily') and beyond do not happen in this story. No Diana Fowley. No John Doggett and Monica Reyes. All the knowledge you need for this story is the basic early X-Files knowledge. Vague references will be made to the'Pilot' episode,'Beyond the Sea','Tooms','3', 'One Breath', 'Sanguinarium','Never Again','Memento Mori', and something semi-'Redux' &'Redux II' related. Don't worry if you haven't seen all of these episodes, they're vague, but you'll get a cookie if you recognize them.
There is also a reference to'Kalifornia', but if you haven't seen the movie it won't spoil it.
The title of this novel comes from a book written by Joyce Brabner and Harvey Pekar. If you find yourself in a comic shop, see if you can find a copy.
I invented characters of course, but as for most they belong to Twentieth-Century Fox, 1013 productions and are the brainchild of Chris Carter.
Specifically, Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Kimberly (Skinner's Secretary) The Lone Gunman, Maggie Scully, Bill Scully, Charles Scully, and Samantha Mulder aren't mine. Anyone else you recognize from the show isn't mine either.
Thanks and Enjoy!
