A different sort of S4 and S5. I didn't like Mulder blowing the DOD guy's head off in Redux and then covering it up afterwards. I didn't like Scully's passivity during the cancer arc or the Emily arc. I felt the show raised big emotional and moral questions but didn't bother to answer them. It gave the characters a really good set of reasons to go through a crisis, but then had them go through a lot of the interesting stuff off screen!
My opinion of course, your mileage may vary. My Mulder and Scully took it all rather more to heart. The Tears stories were written after Gethsemane (pre S5). The Truth stories were written after Redux. If you like these, you may like the angsty background of my Profiler stories.
Obeying Orders
Rated R | 36K | Category XA | February 97
Skinner assigns Scully and Mulder a bank robbery case. But Scully's mind isn't really on the investigation.
Fits in the S4 cancer arc. Scullyangst - was Scully really "fine" apart from a few nosebleeds during her cancer?
A One Time Opportunity

Mulder goes out on his own to follow up a plane crash investigation, but can't stop thinking about Scully. Scully goes into the hospital, but can't stop thinking about the investigation.
Fits in the S4 cancer arc. Mulder's a dangerous man, friends and strangers are at risk from his crusade.
Tears of Betrayal

Did Mulder kill himself at the end of the Gethsemane episode?

Tears of Betrayal and Rebirth
Rated R | 114K | Category XA | September 97
If Mulder didn't die in Gethsemane, what did he do? A job on the dark side for Mulder, business as usual for Scully, and a line than binds them together even when they are far apart.
[Includes "Tears of Betrayal" as Part 1.]
Apologies for the cheesey titles, they are stolen from a poem about Gethsemane. No apology for the stories though, I still think S5 would have been more fun if Scully hadn't known what Mulder had done.
A Truth Too Far
Rated PG | 22K | Category S | December 97
Following Redux, Scully starts to doubt Mulder's commitment to the X-Files. Mulder starts to doubt himself.
Truths and Lies
Rated PG | 105K | Category XA | February 98
Scully has a personal stake in confronting the conspiracy, but Mulder is unsure how to fight. When three young girls go missing, both agents have to confront their doubts about work and each other.
The claimed story of S5 was of Mulder's loss of belief and Scully's continuing pain and growth. These are my stories of a Mulder in crisis and a Scully who wants to fight back.
